Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful is just a few months away from release, and after the fantastic first trailer arrived in the summer, the anticipation is riding high for what promises to be one of the year’s best films.
Starring James Franco in the lead, we’ve been treated to the first and second parts of a three-part series of posters, and now Yahoo Movies have debuted the triptych in full, and it is excellent. We’ve already been treated to a handful of brilliant new images today, and this is really the icing on the cake, with a new trailer set to land tomorrow.
“When Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot – fame and fortune are his for the taking – that is until he meets three witches, Theodora, Evanora and Glinda, who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity – and even a bit of wizardry – Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.”
Franco is joined by an all-star cast, headed up by Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Zach Braff (who also lends his voice for a second role), Abigail Spencer, Tim Holmes, and Joey King.
Raimi is directing from a script by Mitchell Kapner (The Whole Nine Yards) and David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole), and with the director partnering once more with the great Danny Elfman (Spider-Man), who is taking scoring duties.
Oz: The Great and Powerful will be released in the UK and US on 8th March, 2013, and that’s a date that really can’t come soon enough. Given the epic scope of what we’ve seen so far, I’m hoping that it will be securing an IMAX release for the spring too.
