Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables has long been one of the most anticipated films of the year, with its unique approach to adapting the novel and musical for the big screen, having the cast sing live on the set rather than recording their songs in the studio.

We saw a brilliant first TV spot for the film last month, following a beautiful new poster bearing the image of the young Cosette, and now a new character poster has been unlocked with the help of fans tweeting/liking/sharing through the film’s official site, this time giving us a look at Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean.

“Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.”

Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, and Amanda Seyfried star as the leads in the impressive cast, completed brilliantly by Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter, with Isabelle Allen starring as the young Cosette.

Hooper (The King’s Speech) is directing from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands), who adapts the original classic novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and the world-famous stage musical.

Les Misérables will be released in the US on Christmas Day, in the height of the Oscar season, and will then head to our shores for an 11th January release in the New Year. I can’t wait; this is going to be incredible, one of the biggest cinematic events of the year. Whilst we eagerly await more, here’s the brilliant new character poster, which you can click to enlarge.
