The as-yet-untitled Transformers sequel is already set for release in the height of summer in 2014, and now rumours of some early casting details have surfaced over at Spoiler TV, intimating that our human lead for the film could be switching Shia LaBeouf out for a female model:
“The new female lead that they are looking for is a high school senior and her boyfriend a Texas racing driver.”
LaBeouf and Bay had both said after Transformers: Dark of the Moon that they wouldn’t be back for a fourth film, and whilst Bay was coaxed back by Paramount, LaBeouf is now very much diversifying his career – his latest performance in Lawless is absolutely impeccable – and thus the search will soon by underway for the new cast of human characters.
Bay will be directing from a script penned by Ehren Kruger, who worked on both Dark of the Moon and Revenge of the Fallen.
No word yet on exactly when we can expect production to begin, but if these rumours are true, it will be interesting to see who gets cast in the female lead.
Bay has spoken about the Transformers themselves getting a more prominent role in the upcoming sequel, and if that’s the case, it will be interesting to see if the film goes for unknowns and/or rising stars for the leads, rather than more familiar faces.
Though the cast is expected to be entirely new, one thing I do hope is that John Turturro (Agent Simmons) might once more make an appearance, even if only for a moment, because I loved him in the first films, and it would be great to see him here again.
Transformers 4 is set for release on 27th June, 2014, so we still have plenty of time to wait before it arrives on the big screen. But with these early details surfacing, hopefully we’ll have some concrete casting news to bring you soon. More as we get it.
